Activist Communique: (de)Occupy Toronto -- Solidarity with Indigenous struggles

In conjunction with Occupy Toronto
Saturday, November 12, 2011
2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
St. James Park (King Street and Jarvis Street)
Toronto, ON

The Call Out:
In solidarity with Indigenous struggles, Occupy Toronto will march on Saturday, Nov. 12 to raise awareness about the links between Indigenous issues and struggles against austerity, privatization and neo-liberalism, and sovereignty.
We will march to support our own decolonization as well as the larger decolonization needed for our society. Occupy Toronto recognizes we are occupying already occupied lands. We say no to the violent imposition of economic austerity, industrial development and privatization on ourselves, and on people around the world.

We are fighting for our right to a truly democratic society and we recognize the 99 per cent is fighting the same forces that Indigenous and other colonized peoples have been fighting for centuries. Drawing from inspiring lessons from all four directions, we seek to support and share stories of successful community resistance against colonialism, racism and imperialism.
We say no:
-- to Canadian companies destroying the earth and the very existence of people who can show us the way to a more sustainable world.
-- to indigenous peoples facing health, displacement and loss of culture from resource exploitation including mining operations, palm oil plantations, and tar sands.
-- to the ongoing apartheid in Canada, where Indigenous peoples face disproportionate incarceration, poverty and socio-economic instability.
More details TBA.
